In September, the first Russian vaccine against infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), cegardex, entered the market. This virus has more than a hundred types, but there are especially dangerous ones - those that over time can lead to the development of precancerous changes and cancer. In particular, highly oncogenic HPV types cause more than 95% of cervical cancer (cervical cancer) cases. It is the second most common type of cancer among young women. Moreover, the two most common – the 16th and 18th types of HPV – account for about 70% of all cases of RSM associated with the virus, the chief freelance epidemiologist of the Ministry of Health Roman Polibin reported.
