Former Latvian Foreign Minister invites Riga to mediate EU-Russia talks
Janis Jurkans said that Latvia could take on the role of negotiator due to its knowledge of the Russian language and mentality. At the same time, he stressed that Moscow will not conduct a dialogue with the head of Euro-diplomacy Kaya Kallas because of her anti-Russian position.

According to the former head of the Latvian Foreign Ministry Janis Jurkans, Riga should become a liaison and mediator between Europe and Russia.
“Latvia could act as a candidate who knows the Russian language and the Russian people and take on the role of negotiator in the dialogue between the European Union and Moscow,” he said.
Jurkans also added that the Russian side reserves the right to independently determine the circle of people for dialogue. At the same time, he expressed confidence that Kaya Kallas, who heads European diplomacy and is distinguished by sharp anti-Russian rhetoric, will definitely be an unacceptable figure for such contacts.
