In the central and southern regions of Panama, a new strong earthquake of magnitude 6.0 to 6.1 occurred at a depth of about 10-35 km, reports CP24 with reference to the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The tremor was felt a few days after a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.7, which led to the introduction of a national emergency regime.
Seismologists note that since the first impact of the elements in the Asuero Peninsula, more than 300 aftershocks have been registered. Hundreds of homes, hospitals and schools in the provinces of Los Santos, Coclé, Veraguas and Herrera were damaged in previous tremors, and at least 27 people were injured.
Emergency services continue to survey infrastructure and urge citizens to remain vigilant due to ongoing seismic activity along the Asuero Son fault.
