The natural arch of Holey in Hawaii collapsed in late September during Hurricane Nolo, the press service of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park reported on Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned).
The arch "Holey" appeared about 550 years ago from lava rock. It was formed by differential erosion - the difference in hardness of different layers of lava. Formation height of about 27.4 m stretched from the cliff to the Pacific Ocean.
According to the press service of the park, on September 23, the arch was still standing, but by the evening of the 27th it collapsed. "The exact time of the collapse is unknown; it may have occurred during a period when the park was temporarily closed due to Tropical Storm Nolo," it said.
Hurricane Nolo hit Hawaii in late September and brought heavy rains and strong winds. In the south of the island in a number of settlements there were floods, reported the channel Hawaii News Now.
