In Belarus, the icon created with the help of artificial intelligence was consecrated. It depicts Saint Carlo Acoutis, who was canonized by the Catholic Church in 2025, Katolik.life reported. According to the portal, this happened for the first time in Belarus.
The icon is installed in the church of St. Mary Magdalene in Novolukoml. On October 11, she was blessed by Archbishop Emerit Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz. As Katolik.life notes, the idea has sparked controversy among believers on social media.
Some users criticized the use of artificial intelligence and doubted that the generated image can be considered an icon and used for prayer.
Carlo Acoutis was an Italian teenager and self-taught programmer. He created a website with a catalogue of Eucharistic miracles from around the world. Akutis died of leukemia on October 12, 2006 at the age of 15. In 2020, the Vatican listed him as blessed, and on September 7, 2025, he was canonized. He is considered the patron of youth and the Internet, and is also called the “cyberapostle”.
In early October, the Washington Post, citing the research organization Transluce, reported an attempt by unknown AI agents to hack the website of the Canadian government. Their identity could not be established, but experts noted similarities with the behavior of OpenAI agents. The company has started a review.
