BRSM action “Good.Old”: schoolchildren of Vitebsk help the elderly with autumn troubles and give warm communication

Volunteers of the “Good Heart” movement of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union in October across the country hold the “Good.Star” action. Guys go to the elderly to help with the autumn chores and surround with simple human care.

With shovels, rakes and brooms, tenth-graders of the volunteer detachment “We will not fail” of the gymnasium No. 4 of Vitebsk named after M. I. Denisenko came to Zoe Nikolaevna Pilipenko, who lives in the private sector on Gastello Street.

- There is a lot of work: beds to dig, apples to collect, foliage to pick up and garbage to remove, welcomes the hostess of the children and indicates the front of the work. I live alone, only Levik’s cat is in the company, so such assistants are just a salvation for me.

Zoya Nikolaevna proudly shows us her beautiful dahlias. He says that this year, apples and raspberries were disfigured - "all summer fed the whole district." Within an hour, the pensioner’s house was transformed. The hostess is happy with the result. Calls gymnasium students to the house - treats homemade grapes and apples. Thank you for your help and remembers how she helped veterans and the elderly as a schoolgirl:

- Then such assistants were called not volunteers, but Timurians. Come back in the winter when the snow covers everything. I'd love to have your help.

Volunteers of the “Good Heart” detachment from the secondary school No. 18 of Vitebsk named after V. S. Smetanin, together with the teacher-organizer Irina Mandrik, regularly visit Zinaida Nikolaevna Urban, who lives on Vitebskaya Street. The guys come not only on holidays, but also to help with the household: remove snow, foliage, cut bushes. The hostess knows them, loves them and waits.

However, even with such support, everyday loneliness does not disappear. Students see this and try to brighten up everyday life with simple communication. Tenth-grader Daria Yuwan-Tsing-Si argues: When we come to grandparents, it becomes easier for them not only from a clean yard, a well-groomed garden, but also from an ordinary conversation.
