Draw Domracheva and “diamond of knowledge”: an exhibition of works by teachers and students of BSPU opened in Minsk

The exhibition "Maistairnaya computation" opened in the National Library on September 24, reports the correspondent of the agency "Minsk-Novosti".

The exhibition is dedicated to the Year of the Belarusian woman. Here are paintings, graphics and decorative and applied arts.

- Visitors can get acquainted with the works of three generations of authors: teachers, Belarusian and foreign students, as well as graduates of the Faculty of Aesthetic Education of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University. With this project, we wanted to show that you can be a successful teacher and an effective creator at the same time, and also tried to convey the continuity of generations. Our teachers have participated in exhibitions more than once, but for many students this is a new experience. It is especially important to support them at the beginning of their creative journey. I hope that this exhibition will become a space where everyone will be able to come into contact with art and relax their souls, said Veronika Radygin, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of BSPU.

“Maistairnaya computation” is not the first joint exhibition of students and teachers. An exposition on the same theme was presented in the halls of the Palace of the Republic three years ago. Such events have become a tradition not only at the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after M. Tank, but also at the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, as well as at the P. Masherov Vitebsk State University (Faculty of Art and Graphics).

At the opening of the exhibition, Veronika Strecko, a second-year student of the Faculty of Aesthetic Education of BSPU named after M. Tank, transferred her work dedicated to the “diamond of knowledge” to the National Library.

I wrote the painting “National Library” this year in the open air during the summer practice. I am from Slutsk, but I study in Minsk. “Diamond of Knowledge” is a visiting card of the capital, the library impressed me with its shape and took a central place in the composition. While working, I walked around the building and decided to write it from the side of the Slepyansk water system. I wanted to show not only the beauty of the library, but also the landscape. During her studies and life in Minsk, she was inspired by many locations, but most impressed by the main building of the BSPU, the theater of young spectators, Gorky and Chelyuskintsev parks, Loshitsky Park. I really like to work on landscapes, because they convey my inner state, and the process fills with calm, said Strechko.

The exposition includes more than 70 works, 47 of which were prepared by graduates and students of the university.

- The exhibition presents my thesis project “Gods and goddesses of Belarus (Veles, Makosh, Lada, Perun, Svorog)”. I love our folklore and culture. The paintings depicted the gods that our ancestors worshiped. I wanted to move a piece of the past into the present. The diploma project consists of 10 works, four of them in the National Library, they are made in pencil graphics (the rest is written in watercolor and is exhibited in Raubichy). I really like this kind of fine art for the angularity of the technique, clear and structural lines. I like to work with a simple pencil, with its help you can create a contrast or give tenderness, said Victoria Eismont, a graduate student of the Faculty of Aesthetic Education at BSPU.

Artist Daria Maley painted biathlete Daria Domracheva with a gold medal, which she received at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 (the athlete won two more gold awards there).

Students, teachers and graduates tried to rethink traditional Belarusian crafts in a modern artistic way. Separate elements on the canvases were mouldings, towels and symbols of Belarus.

- I study art, and when I look at these paintings, I realize how amazing they are. Many of the works should be shown in museums, because they are very talented. The canvases can be traced how they were created, they also show the souls of the authors. In addition, a friend and I were impressed by the creative approach of the artists and how they turned ideas into reality. I like realism very much, I have seen many examples of this trend in the exhibition. But despite my preferences in art, I myself depict abstraction, said Marcos Asencio, a visitor to the exhibition and tourist from Spain.

His friend Marcel Chupame Ano supported his friend's vision and shared his impressions of Minsk:

- Recently, we visited the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, where you can get in touch with the history of the Belarusian people. We also liked the capital’s avenues, huge roads, incredibly tall buildings, there are no such buildings in Spain. In many places there are still Soviet buildings, we were impressed. In our country there are a lot of combined buildings, and Barcelona itself is compact. In Minsk, on the contrary, it is quite spacious, you can freely pass between two houses. We were delighted with the Belarusian nature, a huge number of parks, unfortunately, we have much less.
