The results of the contest “My garden and garden”. The Veteran Dozhinki took place on September 30 at the Palace of Veterans’ Culture, a correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.

For 12 years now, the Council of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans has been organizing a harvest competition for those who continue to participate in the public life of the capital at a respectable age. Traditionally, Veteran Dozhinki is held in two stages: the jury evaluates the exhibition of fruits and vegetables grown by veterans, and the artistic performances of participants in all nine districts. The second and most enjoyable part of the competition includes summing up and awarding the winners.

- Many veterans have country participants, village estates, inherited from their parents, where they are engaged in flower breeding, grow vegetables and fruits. Therefore, the competition was conceived as a festival of abundance, the result of fieldwork from spring to autumn, said Yuri Lutsyk, Chairman of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans. “Veteran Dozhinki” is a holiday of working people, an opportunity to share their successes and achievements.

He noted that this year the participants prepared a video presentation for the first time.
- It is difficult to convey the beauty of flowering roses in May or assess the strawberry harvest in June, so technology came to the rescue, Lutsyk said. There are no losers in the contest. All participants deserve the highest praise.

Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans, Chairman of the Committee of Labor Veterans Zhanna Tchaikovsky stressed that the difference of the current competition is giant fruits and unusual compositions of vegetables.
- There were tubers of potatoes weighing 700-800 grams, six kilogram beets, pood pumpkins, Tchaikovsky said. Evaluating the work of the participants, I did not cease to admire the talents of veterans. Having worked all their lives in industry, construction, health care, and on well-deserved rest, they continue to care for children and grandchildren, harvest a strategic supply of vegetables for their family, keep cheerful spirits and share experience and wisdom with others.

Determining the best of the best was not easy, so this year the prizes went to all districts. There were 13 personal nominations. So, in the category "Garden champion" was marked Antonina Likhtorovich (Zavodskaya district). A resident of the Central district Svetlana Nikolaeva was recognized as the best for “Pharmacy on the bed”. In the nomination “Miracle garden” diploma went to Catherine Bela from Moscow. And the best “Dacha bouquet” was Angelika Koshel from Leninsky district.

Other participants also received well-deserved awards. Among them is Nina Rudnitskaya. She won first place in the competition.
- In my native Zavodsk district, I lead the ensemble “With a Song for Life”. At the "Veteran Dozhinskie" a chapel performed the old Belarusian song "Pavei to the Wind". After all, the Gomel region is the region where I come from, the singing region, Rudnitskaya said. My love for the song was instilled in me by my mother. There were seven children in the family. My older sister was born in 1935, and I, the sixth child in the family, in 1953. Since childhood, we worked a lot on the land, helped our parents on the household, but with the song any work argued faster.
For many years N. Rudnitskaya worked in the field of road transport, later - in amber production. On a well-deserved rest, he grows vegetables, berries and fruits on the parent estate.
“The land in the Gomel region is fertile, so everything grows well,” she said. This year, potatoes, onions, tomatoes were especially born. All this wealth was presented at the competition, for which it was noted. It is pleasant when the land gives a rich harvest, and doubly so when people appreciate your efforts.
