On the eve of the Day of Elderly Persons, Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Andrey Strigelsky met with the activists of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans on September 30, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.

- Almost 443 thousand elderly people live in the capital - this is almost a quarter of the capital's population, the deputy chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee cited the data. Unfortunately, there are very few veterans of the Great Patriotic War — 146 people. Veterans of military operations on the territory of other states - 2 thousand people, labor veterans - 417 thousand. The Veteran organization has a special account: it is the gold fund of the capital, a resource that we hold infinitely dear. Given the situation outside the republic, the role of the organization should be strengthened. Preserving sovereignty, peaceful Belarus and cozy Minsk is our common task. And you do it well, because each of you has dedicated your life to the country to develop, prosper, become better. You are an example of serving our country.

He noted that labor veterans are indispensable assistants in working with young people. They tell boys and girls about family values, love for their native city, their country.

- You can always be trusted. You are in the same row with us on the laying of flowers and wreaths, on honoring the fallen heroes. It is very important when representatives of different generations participate in significant events. After all, in this way we demonstrate our unity to the world, Strigelsky said.

He thanked the veterans for their active citizenship, patriotic work with young people, participation in the socio-political life of the country.

According to the chairman of the city veteran organization Yuri Lutsyk, it unites 170 district primary school, which consists of 47 thousand Minsk residents of “silver” age.

- During the year, we do not miss significant events of the city and the country, and also organize our own competitions, Lutsyk said. Among them are the culinary competition “Peace Day”, as well as “Veteran flower garden”, “Dialogue of generations”, harvest festival “My garden and garden”. Veteran squirrels.

In turn, Tatiana Dzheora, Chairman of the Factory District Veterans Organization, noted that its participants, along with representatives of other public organizations, contribute to the well-being of the country, and also spoke about cooperation with the district territorial center for social services of the population.
