The world champion appreciated the hire of Petrosyan in the first tournament without Tutberidze
Alena Leonova noted that during the warm-up of the free program of the Trialeti Trophy tournament in Batumi, Adelia Petrosyan was “in a disassembled state”, but her coach Inna Goncharenko managed to set up a skater
Russian figure skater Adelia Petrosyan successfully performed at the Challenger Trialeti Trophy tournament in Batumi (Georgia). This was stated by “RBC Sport” silver medalist of the world championship in figure skating Alena Leonov.
The ISU Challenger Series is an international figure skating competition series that has been held under the auspices of ISU since 2014. It serves as an intermediate link between ordinary international starts and the Grand Prix series.
“I am very happy for Adelia. I don’t know what the coach told her that Adelia was so ready because she was in a disassembled state during the warm-up. Therefore, it is doubly pleasant that she believed in herself and her strength, making a clean rental. Hopefully, it will complicate the program further, because without it there is nowhere. At the moment, in her situation after the change of coach, it is quite a worthy performance. I'm glad for her that she did this. I think that the performance can be called successful, Leonova told RBC Sport.
In total, Petrosyan received 204.16 points for a short and arbitrary program. Estonian Nina Petrykina won (205.94). Another Russian Anna Frolova took third place (203,21).
Petrosyan, 19, who has been training with Eteri Tutberidze since 2019, left her group in July. Now she trains under the guidance of Inna Goncharenko, Honored Coach of Russia, known for working with Elena Radionova, Maxim Kovtun and Sergey Voronov.
Petrosyan, who took sixth place at the Olympics in Italy in women’s singles, previously won three times at the Russian championship and in the final of the Russian Grand Prix. Challenger was her first international tournament after the Games.
