وقد حكمت محكمة في دبلن على مدرب سباحة أولمبي إيرلندي سابق، جورج جيبني، 78 سنة، بالسجن لمدة خمسة عشر عاما ونصف العام بتهمة الاعتداء الجنسي على أربعة رياضيين شباب في السبعينات والثمانينات.
وثبت أن جيبني مذنب بـ 39 تهمة تتعلق بسوء السلوك الجنسي وقضية واحدة تتعلق بمحاولة الاغتصاب.
(جيبني) كان مدرب (أيرلندا) في الألعاب الأولمبية لـ(لوس أنجلوس) (1984) و(سيول) (1988). In the 1990s, he was tried to prosecute, but the court found the statute of limitations expired, and the trainers went to live first in Scotland and then in the United States.
In 2020-2022, four victims, who were minors at the time of the crimes, testified to the police, and in 2025 Gibney was extraditiond to Ireland.
