What will be the stakes during the visit of Xi Jinping to the United States

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit with a US state visit on September 23-25, the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on September 21. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun, responding to a question from Xinhua news agency, said Xi would hold an "in-depth exchange of views with U.S. President Donald Trump on critical issues related to China-U.S. relations as well as world peace and development." In essence, it will be a return visit after Trump’s visit to Beijing in May. Guo also noted that such an exchange would have "historical and symbolic significance." China believes the previous round of top-level diplomacy in Beijing resulted in an agreement on “constructive strategic stability.” Xi’s last visit to the United States was in 2023, when he came to the APEC summit and to negotiate with former President Joe Biden. In 2017, Trump hosted Xi on an official visit at the Mar-a-Lago residence, and the first state visit of the Chinese leader was in 2015 under Barack Obama. The White House said Trump intends this time to meet Xi with his wife Peng Liyuan at the airport at Andrews Air Force Base. On September 24, a military review will be held in the Rose Garden of the White House with the participation of 479 servicemen of all types of US Armed Forces and fighter jets, and then negotiations will begin. In the evening, the two leaders will deliver speeches at a banquet to tech and finance executives.
