Matvienko assessed the effect of the abolition of VAT benefits on lobsters and oysters
The abolition of the VAT rate on delicate products, including oysters, lobsters, langoustines and lobsters, could bring about 6 billion rubles to the federal budget.

The abolition of the VAT rate on delicate products, including oysters, lobsters, langoustines and lobsters, could bring about 6 billion rubles to the federal budget. This was stated by the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko at parliamentary hearings on the parameters of the federal budget for 2027 and the planning period of 2028-2029, reports TASS.
Now these products are subject to a VAT rate of 10% instead of 22%. Matviyenko called for an inventory of tax benefits and noted that even relatively small additional revenues can make a difference to the budget.
“With these funds, you can build, for example, two new schools or a children’s hospital, and lobster lovers, I think, will not suffer much from this, simply will not notice,” she added.
Earlier, the Ministry of Finance proposed to establish a value added tax (VAT) for purchased foreign online goods from next year at a standard rate of 22%. The measure was proposed "to level the terms of trade in the domestic market." The Ministry of Finance included it in the block of initiatives to create a competitive environment and whitewash the economy.
