Kazakhstan in 2026 did not produce about 6 million tons of oil due to the accident at the Tengiz field and “problems” with the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin said at a briefing.
The accident at Tengiz at the beginning of the year, the problems with the CPC - we lost about 6 million tons of oil. As lost — not mined, to be precise, they lie in the ground, but in the processes of the economy are not involved, — he said (quoted by TASS).
On January 18, two electric transformers caught fire at the Tengiz field. After the accident, the operator Tengizchevroil suspended production and declared force majeure. Oil production was resumed only by January 31.
At the end of May there was also an accident in Tengiz. The operator Tengizchevroil reported that there was an operational failure at the field.
Reuters wrote, citing two industry sources, that production at the field fell sharply as a result of the accident on May 26 – to 5-10 thousand tons compared to the usual level of 125 thousand tons per day. According to a third source, production at the field resumed on May 27 and reached about 82,000 metric tons.
In addition, in July, several tankers, including those involved in the transportation of Kazakh oil, were attacked by UAVs at the CPC marine terminal in the Black Sea. As a result of the attacks, the terminal was forced to suspend loading.
Later, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported on the reduction of oil production in connection with the shutdown of the CPC. In August, the agency estimated the loss of Kazakhstan in oil production due to an attack on the CPC infrastructure at 3.5 million tons in 2026.
