The largest among the deposits is Druzhnoye, where there are 95.8 thousand tons of uranium reserves (or 13.8% of all reserves). Also in the top three are the Elkon plateau with 62.4 thousand tons of uranium (9%) and the Northern with 60.8 thousand tons of reserves (8.8%).
In May 2024, the United States restricted uranium imports from Russia. In November of the same year, the Russian government imposed restrictions on the export of enriched uranium to the United States or under contracts concluded with persons registered in U.S. jurisdiction. The Financial Times reported that by 2040, Russia could control more than a third of the world’s uranium production.
