“We intend to buy gas from wherever possible. If Russia supplies us with gas, we will buy gas from Russia, if it supplies Azerbaijan, we will buy from Azerbaijan, if Iran – from Iran, Simonyan told reporters. If it becomes possible to buy gas anywhere in Turkey, we will buy gas from Turkey at the same time. Who says you have to get out of one pocket and jump into another.
Responding to the journalist’s comment that Russian gas in Armenia is cheaper, Mr. Simonyan said that the price for it is not measured “only in dollars”. Who says the price of gas is cheaper? You see that gas is used as a political currency, the secretary of the Security Council said.
Most of the gas comes to Armenia from Russia. In 2025, Gazprom supplied about 2.7 billion cubic meters of gas to the country. At the end of May, Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev sent Armenia a notification about the possible suspension or denunciation of the 2013 agreement on the supply of gas, petroleum products and diamonds if the country continues its rapprochement with the EU. Earlier, the head of the Central Bank of Armenia, Martin Galstyan, called a possible increase in gas prices by Russia an “apocalyptic phenomenon” and predicted an increase in inflation and risks of lower economic growth.
