In 2025, median household income in real terms increased by 2.6%, reaching $87.46 thousand. This data was provided by the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB). This is a record level since counting began in 1967. Also, according to the Bureau, the share of people below the poverty line decreased by 0.5 percentage points, to 10.2%.
As CNBC notes, the USCB data dates back to 2025, so it is impossible to judge the situation after the start of the US war in Iran and the associated acceleration in inflation. In August, prices in the United States increased by 3.4% compared to the same period in 2025.
At the end of August, the US Department of Commerce published data from which it follows that the profit of American companies reached a record since the 1940s, 18% of the country’s GDP. At the same time, the share of workers’ wages in GDP fell to 60%, the lowest since the 1950s.
