US President Donald Trump has demanded that the Federal Reserve (Fed) reduce interest rates to 1%. Earlier, the Fed announced the first rate hike since 2023.

“We are dragging on almost every country in the world, and this cannot continue,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

On September 16, the Fed raised the key interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point to the target range of 3.75%-4%.

The decision by the 12-member Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) was unanimous. Inflation in the country remains elevated, the committee said. Most members of the committee forecast another increase by the regulator in the near future.

The US president called the decision inadequate, threatening to stop trade with countries that have a surplus in trade with the US. Lower interest rates for the United States of America, and fast.
