Chinese manufacturer Leapmotor sold 240,000 cars in the world market in the second quarter. This is a record for the startup itself and the first time Leapmotor has outsold major Japanese manufacturers such as Subaru and Mitsubishi. This is reported by the Nikkei Agency.
In the second quarter, Subaru sold 230,000 vehicles and Mitsubishi sold 170,000. Leapmotor, which specializes in low-cost electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles, saw annual sales rise by 84 percent. This was achieved due to increased sales in China and Europe.
In Europe, Leapmotor cooperates with Stellantis, using its production facilities. The Leapmotor T03 model was most actively sold in the second quarter, the cost of which ranges from €15.9 thousand in Europe, and from $9.4 thousand to $ 12 thousand in China. At the same time, prices for Subaru and Mitsubishi cars in the Chinese market start from $ 25 thousand, and in Europe - from € 30 thousand.
The company Leapmotor was founded in 2015, but it began to produce cars only in 2018 and until 2020 was hardly noticeable in the Chinese market. In 2020, there was a new model hatchback Leapmotor T03, which immediately became popular. In 2023, Stellantis bought a 20% stake in Leapmotor. In 2025-2026, Leapmotor became one of the leaders among Chinese startups engaged in the production of electric vehicles.
