In California, the court began against Tesla in a lawsuit filed by the state Department of civil rights, reports Reuters. Authorities accuse Tesla of condoning racial discrimination at its main assembly plant in Fremont. The trial is held without a jury, the hearing will last until October 30.

Initial complaints were filed back in 2022. The lawsuit alleges that black workers were systematically harassed (racially-based insults), underpaid and denied promotions. One employee said he heard racist abuse 50 to 100 times a day, and the factory was often referred to as a “plantation” and a “slave ship.”.

Tesla disagrees with the allegations and calls the lawsuit "misguided." The company denies any wrongdoing and says it does not tolerate discrimination in its businesses. Tesla's attorney also said the state is "attacking the employer" and the company is itself a victim.
