American investor Todd Bowley received the support of the US authorities and representatives of the Persian Gulf countries for the possible acquisition of foreign assets of Lukoil. This is reported by the Financial Times (FT), citing sources.
According to the publication, the billionaire financier has been working on an application for the purchase of the international business of the Russian oil company (Lukoil International GmbH).
The consortium of Todd Bowley included the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), which plans to receive about 15% of the shares, Sheikh Tahnun bin Zayed al-Nahyan from the UAE, as well as the Qatari family of billionaires Al-Hayat, which has joint projects with the entourage of US President Donald Trump.
The goal of investors is to seize the deal from the American investment company Carlyle, an agreement with which was reached in January. The sale of Carlyle's assets has been stuck for 10 months due to protracted interagency coordination between the National Security Council, the State Department and the U.S. Department of Energy.
Mr Bowley's proposal is at an advanced stage, but final agreements have not yet been reached, the newspaper said.
On September 18, the US Treasury extended the license to perform operations related to the sale of international assets of LUKOIL until October 22.
