Sberbank began issuing cards in ATMs

Sberbank has launched a service for issuing cards through ATMs. The first 70 devices with a new function appeared in Nizhny Novgorod. It is available to users of the mobile application "SberBank Online". To receive the card, you must select on the screen “Get a card” and log in. The ATM will issue a free unnamed savings card of the Mir payment system in about 30 seconds, then it must be activated in the bank application.

The functionality of ATMs is constantly expanding. As noted by the first Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank Alexander Vedyakhin, currently they “already know how to conduct express health assessment, change currency and answer customer questions with the help of AI assistant GigaChat, now added another basic banking scenario – obtaining a card.”.

In Nizhny Novgorod, Sberbank intends to check how much such a format is in demand, and after completing the pilot, decide on the feasibility of scaling the functionality throughout the country.

The first ATMs with the function of issuing cards in Russia were installed by Ozon Bank in February 2026 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. By the middle of the year, the bank already had 1,000 devices equipped with a card issue module. “The bank sees the functionality of ATMs wider than just cash issuance, so all our devices are already equipped with the mechanics of issuing plastic cards and have become another tool for obtaining a ready-made card along with a representative of the bank and PVZ,” commented Andrey Lichmanov, Chairman of the Board of Ozon Bank. According to him, the bank will continue to build up its own ATM network next year.
