The G20 has advanced in understanding several issues, most notably the reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This was reported by TASS Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov after the summit of the “twenty” in Milwaukee (Wisconsin).
“In the current difficult geopolitical and economic conditions, it is difficult to expect any breakthroughs from any dialogue,” Reshetnikov said. Nevertheless, the twenty has made progress in discussing and, most importantly, understanding some important issues, including those related to the reform of the WTO and current trade.
Among the topics related to the reform of the WTO, the minister called the “weaponization” of trade in food and goods necessary for its production, as well as the “modernization of the basic principles of the multilateral trading system.” On the latter issue, Reshetnikov added, the G20 countries hold “very different views.”.
The meeting in Milwaukee took place on September 30. It focused on international economic development and trade. The final event of the association will be the summit, which will be held in Miami (Florida) on September 14-15.
