The government has approved a strategy for the development of the bioeconomy, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said. According to him, the document identified priority areas of application of biotechnology for the next 10 years and longer term.

The strategy provides for the creation of conditions for enterprises producing innovative products based on biological resources and living microorganisms, including for the agro-industrial complex (APC), medicine, veterinary medicine, energy, housing and communal services and ecology. Mr. Mishustin said that the strategy involves building up scientific infrastructure, creating technology parks and design bureaus, as well as expanding the network of test stands.
“We are talking not only about new materials, fuels, fertilizers and feed additives, but also about medicines and medical devices,” he said. He instructed First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov to personally monitor the preparation of the action plan for the implementation of the strategy.
