Trump’s fight with the Fed has reached a new level

Member of the Federal Reserve System (FRS) Lisa Cook challenged another attempt by US President Donald Trump to remove her from office. Reuters reports.

Her lawyer, Abby Lowell, has questioned the objectivity of the White House investigation into mortgage fraud allegations. She said Cook would not be able to attend the Nov. 5 hearing because of his work in Europe.

According to the lawyer, the hearing can take place no earlier than December, after the Fed meeting. Trump has been trying to fire Cook for more than a year to tighten his grip on the central bank.

He is unhappy that the Fed, in his opinion, refuses to cut rates for political reasons. Cook's defense argues that a fair hearing will show no basis for her dismissal.
