On September 18, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made a working trip to the Shklovsky district of the Mogilev region and set a number of tasks for the farmers. Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich explained why the Head of State constantly keeps the development of the agro-industrial complex under his personal control in the "Weekdays" program on the "SBTV" and "Alfa Radio" YouTube channels, sb.by reports.
First of all, he noted that the Liberal Democratic Party is patronizing a specific farm:
— Including in this regard, I follow the working trips of the Head of State with close attention. I listen to every word, realizing that the President may find himself in the farm assigned to the LDPB — and I will also talk about the state of affairs. Huge responsibility! And I do not want to let down either the country, or the President, or the people. We will do everything not to let you down. I am glad that our officials have never succeeded and will not succeed in putting dust in the eyes of the Belarusian leader. Our managers sometimes want to show only the best. But if you think that you will hide something and the President will not find out — this is a deep misconception. The Head of State focuses on a very wide range of sources of information in order to get an objective picture of what is happening in the country.

— Agriculture is food security and independence of the country. Without well-groomed land, good harvests, and a sowing campaign, there can be no strong army, strong special services, and strong industry. Everything is closely interconnected. And we have already proved that these are not empty words. Today, our agricultural products are like oil, which we export around the world. We make a lot of money from it. This is our gold, our budget, salaries. This is Belarusian pride. And this is foreign policy as well. When we communicate with delegations from other countries, we often hear that they know our meat, milk, cottage cheese, and so on. That is, including agricultural products, it forms the image of the country. And it's also about peace. Remember the President's words that you have to work if you do not want to fight.

Another very important topic is potato production. In 2026, it is planned to receive 3 million 300 thousand tons of this crop in the country. However, the Head of State directs farmers to even more ambitious results. When visiting the peasant (farm) farm "Diana" in the Shklovsky district, the Belarusian leader noted that the current area for potatoes in the country is relatively small and should be increased in the future.
Why does Alexander Lukashenko delve into the situation with each individual crop in Belarus? Oleg Gaidukevich explained:
— These are elements of food security. The head of state is immersed in this topic very closely and knows perfectly well what is in demand in world markets, where we are not working out what products we can sell more. Potatoes are a much-needed and scarce commodity today. For example, in Russia, the demand for it is very high. Remember, there were even meetings with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the development of cultivation of this culture. And here we have something to boast about, there are results. Notice how the President subtly remarked that we are bubbles. We are really associated, among other things, with the production of quality potatoes. It's our brand, and we can't lose it. The same applies to flax and other crops. Remember how much time and attention the Head of State devoted to
