In the first seven months of 2026, more than 15,000 enterprises went bankrupt in Germany. The largest losses were incurred by transportation, the hotel sector and construction.

In the first seven months of 2026, more than 15,000 enterprises went bankrupt in Germany. The largest losses were incurred by transportation, the hotel sector and construction.

In July 2026, German courts accepted 2,373 corporate insolvency applications. The Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) reports that the figure is 8% higher than the level of July 2025.

In total, in January-July 2026, the country counted 15,185 bankruptcies. Compared to the same period of 2025, they increased by 6.9%.

Most often insolvent were companies from the field of transport and storage. The hotel business and the construction industry follow.

In early September, information appeared: the German authorities could not stop the massive wave of bankruptcies. In the first half of the year, the number of bankruptcies was the highest since 2005.
