Chinese tourist surprised by check in St. Petersburg after stories about cheap products
A resident of China after a trip to St. Petersburg doubted the stories about extremely cheap products in Russia

A resident of China after a trip to St. Petersburg doubted the stories about extremely cheap products in Russia. In an interview with Chinese journalists, he said that he bought bread, eggs, bananas, chicken breast and a small piece of butter for 1140 rubles. According to his calculations, this corresponded to about 90 yuan.
According to the traveler, there is a widespread perception in China that the equivalent of 30 yuan can be purchased for a week in Russia. A visit to one of the chain supermarkets showed him that the cost of shopping depends heavily on the composition of the basket.
The most affordable were vegetables for borscht. The tourist said that potatoes were sold for 28 rubles per kilogram, carrots - for 35 rubles, and cabbage was even cheaper. On the lower shelves were bags of potatoes, cabbage, beets and carrots. These products, in his opinion, allowed to eat cheaply even on a small budget.
Tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, on the contrary, seemed expensive to the buyer. He also considered the cost of meat, especially beef, to be much more expensive than in China. Prices for bread, cereals, dairy products and eggs pleasantly surprised the traveler.
The check for 1140 rubles forced the tourist to reconsider expectations from Russian stores. He called stories about the possibility of buying for a week for 30 yuan a myth. At the same time, according to his impression, products in Russia remained much more affordable than in the EU countries.
