The creative economy sector is becoming a full-fledged part of the Belarusian economy. This was announced at the press conference “The role of intellectual property in the innovative development of the Republic of Belarus: challenges of the time and prospects for development”, said General Director of the National Center for Intellectual Property (NCIS) Alexei Kurman.

He noted:
- In our country, the creative economy sector is already becoming a full-fledged part of the national economy, creating jobs and creating export potential.
The leading role in this sector, according to the Director General of NCIS, is occupied by the High Technologies Park, which unites companies in the field of IT, software development, digital services and other promising areas. In addition, the Head of State provides significant support to the core of the creative economy, including through the establishment of a special legal regime providing for tax benefits and other preferences for Park residents.
- Today, the creative sector of the economy is developing organically in the field of information and communication technologies, said Alexey Kurman. So, for the first half of 2026, the export of computer, telecommunication and information services grew by 13.7% compared to the same period in 2025.
According to the Global Innovation Index 2026, Belarus entered the top 25 countries in terms of the percentage of ICT services exports from the total trade volume.
- It should be noted that the development of the creative economy is closely related to digitalization. Digital technologies open up new opportunities for promoting Belarusian goods, including through actively developing e-commerce. At the same time, the digital environment increases the risks of illegal copying and use of intellectual property. An effective tool to counter the spread of counterfeit products is the legal protection of industrial property, said Alexey Kurman.
According to him, according to the results of the first half of this year, 4199 applications were filed for the issuance of protection documents for objects of industrial property rights, while from national applicants – 1,609 applications.
The speaker reminded that NCIS is not only the patent office of Belarus, but also the only organization in the country for collective management of property rights of authors and other right holders.
- In the first half of this year, NCIS exercised its powers on collective management of property rights under more than 8000 existing agreements. The total amount of collection of royalties for this period amounted to 7.8 million rubles, and the amount distributed - 8 million rubles. Most of these funds were paid in favor of national authors, said the Director General of NCIS. Thus, NCIS is one of the key links in the creative economy of Belarus, forming an infrastructure in the field of intellectual property.
