Slovak authorities are working on options for where to get gas. Among the possible suppliers, 3 countries are named - Algeria, Azerbaijan and the United States. This was stated by the head of the economic Department of the Republic Denis Sakova. The statement was made at a press conference, broadcast Friday by the Slovak TV channel TA3.
Sakova named 3 countries with which, in her opinion, it is possible to sign gas agreements: Algeria, Azerbaijan and the United States. This is what they see as potential partners.
The republic needs a new contract for the amount of 1/3 of its consumption. Such a document, as the minister noted, should begin to operate from September 2027.
The European Union has planned to introduce a complete ban on Russian LNG from January 1, 2027. By the autumn of the same year, the EU intends to stop importing pipeline gas from Russia. Slovakia receives Russian gas through Turkish Stream. In April, the country appealed to the EU court challenging the ban on its imports.
Russia has repeatedly stressed: The West has abandoned Russian energy resources in vain. According to Moscow, this will turn into an even greater dependence on rising prices. They also said that the countries that introduced the refusal, still buy through intermediaries more expensive and will continue to take Russian coal, oil and gas.
