In Penza – for food: the region took the second place in the country in terms of availability of the food basket

However, in this regard, Penza residents were lucky: the cost of the minimum food basket in the region turned out to be one of the lowest in Russia.

According to Ria Novosti, citing data from the Rusprodsoyuz association, in August 2026 the cost of the minimum monthly set of food products in Russia decreased by 2.4% and amounted to an average of 7,962.5 rubles per person.
Penza region took the second place among the regions of the country with the lowest cost of the food basket. In August, the minimum set of meals here cost an average of 6.61 thousand rubles. Products were cheaper only in neighboring Mordovia, where a similar set cost 6.42 thousand rubles.
As a result, the cost of the minimum food basket in the Penza region turned out to be about 1.35 thousand rubles, or 17% lower than the average Russian indicator.
For comparison, in Tatarstan, the minimum set of products was estimated at 7.12 thousand rubles, in the Omsk region – at 6.87 thousand rubles, and in the Moscow region – at 8.49 thousand rubles.
In Moscow, the cost of a food basket in August amounted to 9.42 thousand rubles, in St. Petersburg – 9.39 thousand rubles. In the Leningrad region, an average of 9 thousand rubles was required to purchase a minimum set of products, in the Kaliningrad region – 9.54 thousand rubles.
The highest cost of the minimum set of meals was recorded in Chukotka – 21.3 thousand rubles. In the Kamchatka Territory, the figure reached 13.54 thousand rubles, and in the Khabarovsk Territory – 10.36 thousand rubles.
The Penza region retains one of the most advantageous positions in the country in terms of the cost of a basic set of food products.
