In the US state of Kentucky, 19-year-old Elijah Mayes was charged with the murder of 11-month-old Grayson Walton, whom he was supposed to look after. The body of the child was found during a search of a house in the city of Clyton, reports People.

The boy's father appealed to law enforcement officers on September 12 at about 17:00. He said that he left his son with Mayes - the guy worked as a nanny. Later, the young man told investigators that the baby was allegedly taken by a family friend on the evening of September 11. However, the police found the man and found out that he did not come for the child.

During the first search, police found drugs allegedly belonging to the guy. The next search took place in the house of the baby's grandfather, there inside the sofa and a body was found. Police believe the man hid the child there after the murder. However, police have not yet commented on what collusion there was between the suspect and the owner of the house. It is also specified that the grandfather to the baby is not native, he is the stepfather of one of the parents. He was also detained.

According to court documents, numerous bruises and bite marks were found on the child's body. Investigators also claim that Mayes tried to create an alibi for himself: he got an additional phone number and sent messages to it, posing as the person to whom he gave the child.

Mayes was charged with murder, ill-treatment, falsification of physical evidence, abuse of a corpse and possession of drugs. He pleaded not guilty.

On September 17, local residents held a memorial ceremony with candles in memory of Grayson. According to the obituary, the boy died just two weeks before his first birthday. The next hearing in the case of Mayes is scheduled for September 23, and he is in the detention center of Muhlenberg County.
