This was stated by Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan at the XI meeting of the Interstate Council on Combating Corruption.

According to the head of the department, over five years more than 60 thousand cases of corruption were sentenced in Russia. At the same time, almost one and a half times increased the amount of damages in such cases. The value of the arrested assets of the accused exceeded 800 billion rubles.

Alexander Gutsan noted that recently corrupt officials began to store money in cryptocurrency. With its withdrawal, there were problems that were solved by the adoption of a federal law in February 2026, recognizing digital currency as property for the purposes of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Code. “This closed the loopholes that allowed criminals to hide illegal capital in digital wallets, while remaining in many cases virtually unpunished,” Gutsan said.
