According to the Kamchatka branch of the geophysical service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the magnitude of the most powerful earthquake reached 5.7. It happened about 08:00 local time (23:00 GMT) in more than 200 km south-east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Tremors were recorded in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of more than 23 km under the seabed.
A day earlier, 34 seismic events were recorded off the coast of Kamchatka, none of them was felt, the Emergencies Ministry reported. In addition, two tremors were registered in some areas of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky by up to two points.
