According to the press service of the Ministry, one of the deaths occurred on October 2 in a forest near the mouth of the river Ilim in the Ust-Ilim district. The bear attacked a 71-year-old man who died on the spot. The predator was later shot. On October 4, in a shift village in the Kazachinsko-Lensky district, a bear entered the household and attacked a 55-year-old man. He died of his injuries.
The press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs specifies that another attack occurred in the Nizhneilimsky district, where a bear attacked a fisherman. The beast was able to drive away other people, the victim was taken to the hospital. Two more fishermen are currently wanted in Cheremkhov district. One of them reported on October 4 that together with a friend they got lost in the forest, and then separated. He also said that he met a bear, after which the connection was interrupted. According to preliminary data, the men are in the taiga 100 km from the city of Cheremkhovo.
Previous deaths of bear attacks in the Angara region were recorded in September. On September 17, in the Kirensky district, a bear attacked three local residents collecting berries. The predator killed two of them. In the same area on September 12, a bear killed a pensioner who went to the forest for mushrooms.
Since September 18, a regional high-alert regime has been operating in the Irkutsk region. As of the end of September, 342 bears were shot in the region.
