Masyan creator sentenced to four years and one month in prison

A court in St. Petersburg found the creator of “Masyan” Oleg Kuvaev (declared a foreign agent) guilty under articles on non-performance of duties of a foreign agent and public appeals against the security of the state. He was sentenced to four years and one month in prison in a general regime colony.

The verdict was delivered by the Nevsky District Court. According to his decision, the animator is also forbidden to engage in activities related to the placement of publications on the Internet for four years, the joint press service of the city courts reported.

Oleg Kuvaev (foreign agent) has been releasing the series Masyanya since 2001, since 2006 he has been living abroad. Roskomnadzor in 2022 blocked the site where the cartoon was released. In 2023, the multiplier was declared wanted and recognized as a foreign agent. The reason for initiating a case under the article on calls to carry out activities directed against the security of Russia (p. “in” part 2 of article 280.4 of the criminal code), was one of the episodes of “Masyan”. In the video, the investigation found “ideological hatred and hostility towards the current Russian government and its officials.” The prosecution requested five years and 11 months in prison for the creator of Masyan.
