The ex-official was fined 500 million rubles, he was forbidden 14.5 years after his release to hold senior positions in the authorities. In addition, the court confiscated 319.7 million rubles from the former mayor - the equivalent of bribes received - and deprived of the state award - the medal of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland of the II degree.
His wife Yanina Kopaygorodskaya for mediation in bribery, aiding in embezzlement, laundering criminal proceeds, as well as bribing one witness and forcing another witness to evade testimony was sentenced to nine years in a general regime colony also with a fine of 500 million rubles. At the same time, the court released Kopaygorodskaya from punishment in the form of a fine of 190 thousand rubles for one of the episodes in connection with the expiration of the statute of limitations, but upheld a similar fine for another episode of the case.
Also, the court decided to confiscate another 121 million 643 rubles from the Kopaygorodsky couple.
The third defendant, Alexander Pasunko, for trying to persuade a witness to evade testimony was sentenced to a fine of 190 thousand rubles.
In addition, the court satisfied the claim of the mayor of Sochi to Kopaigorodsky 26.2 million rubles.
In total, the Kopaygorodsky case includes ten criminal episodes. The former mayor was charged with receiving bribes in an especially large amount from developers and businessmen, legalization of criminal proceeds and embezzlement. He and his wife denied their guilt, Pasunko admitted guilt in part.
In the debate of the parties, the prosecutor’s office demanded 21 years in a strict regime colony for Alexei Kopaygorodsky, 16 years in a general regime colony for Yanina Kopaygorodskaya, and a fine of 200 thousand rubles for Alexander Pasunko.
In January 2026, the Hostinsky District Court of Sochi, at the suit of the Prosecutor General’s Office, turned the property of Alexei and Yanina Kopaigorodsky to the state in the amount of more than 1.6 billion rubles.
