The former owner of the Moscow company Kuranty LLC Igor Turuntayev, who is serving a four-year sentence for the theft of 280 million rubles. under the guise of implementing one of the first projects to create import-substituting industries, asks to release him from the colony. According to the documents available to Kommersant, he is serving time in IK-2 in Lipetsk.
Turuntayev was sentenced by the Tagansky District Court of Moscow in August 2024. The criminal case was based on the history of his company's participation in the project of creating the production of granular metal powder compositions - feedstocks, used including in the aerospace industry and in the manufacture of small arms. According to the court, in 2015, after receiving 280 million rubles from the budget, the company did nothing, and the money was taken to the Baltic States.
Turuntayev's term expires in April 2028. In the Lipetsk colony, the 66-year-old entrepreneur is characterized positively: he observes the order of serving his sentence, is a member of the chess-checker circle “Black Rook”, and has also mastered the profession of a slinger. In addition, Turuntayev reconsidered his attitude to the crime, admitted guilt and repented. In connection with the departure of more than half of the term, he asked to replace the unserved term with restriction of freedom.
The court of first instance at the end of July refused to satisfy Turuntayev’s request, taking into account that the convict does not take measures to compensate for damages. He filed an appeal, which came to the Lipetsk regional court the day before. A review date has not yet been set.
