Astrakhan pensioner believed the fraudsters and lost almost 2 million rubles

According to the police, the fraudsters acted according to a multi-stage scheme. The woman was first called on behalf of a former employer, allegedly from an institution where she had worked before. Then the conversation was joined by false representatives of “State Services” and one of the law enforcement agencies. Under the pretext of “checking and safety of savings”, the scammers persuaded the pensioner to withdraw all savings and transfer the money to an unknown person. Now on the fact of embezzlement on a particularly large scale opened a criminal case.

Law enforcement officers note a surge in remote crimes in the region: only over the weekend, 6 residents of Astrakhan became victims of scammers at once. Geography and schemes of deception are diverse:

Kirov district. One of the victims was stolen 20 999 rubles under the pretext of restoring the SIM card. Another Astrakhan lost 159 600 rubles: the money was lured out, promising to sell a mobile phone.

Leninsky district. A resident of the district transferred 940,000 rubles to scammers, believing in the story about a “safe account”. Another 7,443 rubles were stolen under the guise of selling outerwear.

But Znamensk. In this village, the attackers lured 10,000 rubles under the pretext of issuing a loan.

Police urge Astrakhan citizens to be extremely attentive: any requests to transfer money, withdraw cash or name codes from SMS - an excuse to immediately stop the conversation and independently contact the bank or department through official channels.
