According to Bay of Plenty County Police Chief, officers first noticed the dangerously moving car on October 10, around 15:00. About half an hour later, his driver allegedly pointed a gun at a police officer in the Owat area.

During the inspection, it turned out that the driver was already wanted in connection with the violation of the conditions of release. Due to a possible threat to police officers in the area of Rotorua introduced a temporary order on mandatory weapons.

The main search was concentrated in Owata. Employees worked in the area for several hours, but immediately found the man could not. Investigations continued in the evening.

On October 11, around 01:40 a.m., the man was found on a motorcycle. He was taken into custody with the assistance of a cynological group. After the arrest, the temporary order to arm the staff was canceled.
