On the eve of the seasonal cold in various regions of Russia recorded numerous cases of fraud associated with the activities of a fake online store for the sale of fur coats. Attackers for a long time maintained the appearance of a legal commercial enterprise, so that customers did not have any doubts about its authenticity.
To create a convincing image, the scammers used photo materials taken from foreign sources, artificially formed positive reviews and published marks of real buyers, the Baza Telegram channel reports. In addition, a fake page was created imitating the account of the owner of the showroom. The store even had archival publications and a physical address.
According to the victims, the fraudsters used the same accounts for several years. The change of the name of the outlet, the name of the owner and the topic was accompanied by the concealment of previous publications, allowing to involve new customers in the scheme. After exposure, the owner of one of the stolen accounts faced threats from citizens who mistakenly mistaken him for the organizer of the scam.
In turn, the fake store posted a confession of deception in Storis, saying that the funds received from the buyers were aimed at sponsoring Ukrainian armed formations.
