Unknown under the guise of a peer struck up communication with a 14-year-old citizen through the application and after a while asked to send geodata. The student agreed, and soon accepted a video call: on the screen, an unknown person in camouflage threatened that military drones would arrive at the coordinates sent by the boy, and he himself would be in the colony. Out of fear for himself and loved ones, the child agreed to give away more than 15 thousand BYN.
A young stranger came for the money. Police later found out that she was a 14-year-old ninth-grader from Minsk. Previously, she was contacted by unknown persons, who accused her of embezzling a large sum and, under the pretext of cooperation with the investigation, forced to follow their instructions. As a result, the student took the money taken from several teenagers to the Minsk district, where she left it in the place indicated by the curator.
Police are urging parents to talk to their children about phone fraud schemes. It is important to explain to the child that you can not share geolocation data with strangers, transfer money to unknown people and fulfill the demands of people who threaten. If someone is intimidating or requires a child to keep what is happening secret, he should immediately contact his parents or the police.
