In St. Petersburg, police detained members of an alleged fraudulent group that stole 155 million rubles from a preferential mortgage program.
According to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, from April to December 2023, the defendants attracted fake borrowers and, using fictitious documents, issued mortgage loans for the construction of private houses in their names.
Fraudsters managed to receive at least 13 preferential loans for a total amount of over 154.8 million rubles.
Construction was organized to create the appearance of targeted spending of funds, but after receiving credit tranches, the facilities were either not completed or were built using the cheapest materials.
The total amount of damage from the actions of scammers exceeded 142 million rubles. A criminal case has been opened. Three alleged members of the group were detained - two men aged 39 and 41 and a 43-year-old woman.
