Over the past week – from 5 to 11 October – 28 residents of Crimea became victims of remote fraudsters and lost a total of more than 11.4 million rubles. This was reported in the press service of the interior Ministry in the Crimea.
According to the agency, the main schemes of deception this week were: calls on behalf of intelligence officers, offers of additional earnings and investments in cryptocurrency, online purchases, online dating, installation of fake applications and requests for a loan of money.
“Investment in cryptocurrency”
A 40-year-old resident of Yalta and a 54-year-old resident of Simferopol decided to try investing in cryptocurrency. They saw in the messenger tempting offers for earnings, joined thematic groups, where they were contacted by the so-called curators of investment projects.
New friends assured that cryptocurrency trading will quickly multiply savings, explained in detail the procedure and convinced of the profitability of transactions. Trusting, the women transferred the money to the specified details. However, they did not wait for profit - the invested funds were at the intruders. The total amount of losses exceeded 150 thousand rubles.
"Online shopping"
A resident of Yalta planned to buy a set of solar power plants, but a profitable offer on the site of free ads turned into a loss of almost 200 thousand rubles. After discussing the terms of the transaction, the seller sent the man a contract with the details for payment. The bank application blocked the transfer, but the buyer did not attach importance to this and personally contacted the bank branch, where he confirmed the transaction.
After receiving payment, the fake seller was in no hurry to fulfill his obligations. For several months, he postponed delivery times, citing various circumstances, including a vehicle malfunction. Soon the man stopped answering messages and calls. As a result, the resident of the resort city was left without equipment and without savings.
"Romantic acquaintance"
A 35-year-old resident of Dzhankoy decided to meet the girl via the Internet. On the dating site, he began communication, after a short correspondence, they went to the messenger and agreed to meet.
A new friend offered to spend an evening in the theater and sent a link to buy tickets. The man went to this resource, but the link was fake. Cash in the amount of 35 thousand rubles were scammers, and correspondence stopped.
"Fake VPN service"
A resident of the Black Sea region lost more than 50 thousand rubles, trying to use the application to bypass the blocking of Internet resources. The man found a VPN service advertisement on the network and clicked on the link. She brought him to a special bot of one of the messengers, where a payment was required to connect the service.
After transferring money to the personal account, a QR code was received, which supposedly had to be scanned to activate the program. The user followed the instructions, and it soon became clear that the attackers had gained access to his mobile device and banking applications. More than 50 thousand rubles were stolen from the accounts of the victim.
"Borrow the money."
63-year-old resident of Evpatoria received a message in the messenger from a friend with a request for a loan. The pensioner, without doubting the authenticity of the appeal, transferred about 30 thousand rubles to the specified details.
Immediately after receiving the transfer, the sender stopped communicating. Later it turned out that the friend’s page was hacked, and attackers sent messages on his behalf with requests for a loan.
In addition, a 22-year-old resident of the Kirov district lost 2.5 million rubles after a call in the messenger from “an employee of the FSB”. The scammer persuaded her to hand over the money under the pretext of checking it. Only after the transfer of money, the girl realized that she had been deceived.
