Man sentenced to murder after 20 years

The Ust-Kutsk Interdistrict Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Irkutsk region completed the investigation of the criminal case against a 43-year-old local resident. The evidence collected by the court found sufficient for a conviction. The man was found guilty of attempted murder of two persons for hooligan motives and murder for hooligan motives.

The investigation and the court found that in March 2005, the convict in a state of alcoholic intoxication, together with a friend, was driving a car through the village of Yantal of the Ust-Kutsky district, the press service of the Irkutsk Region IC reported. On the side of the road, he noticed two unknown men who were on the roadway and interfered with traffic. The defendant and his friend stopped, got out of the car and started a conversation that turned into a conflict. During the quarrel, they began to beat the men, knocking them to the ground. After that, the convict took out a jack from the trunk and struck the victims on the head, then along with a friend fled the scene.

The crime committed under conditions of non-obviousness remained unsolved for a long time, but work to identify the perpetrators continued. As a result of the joint work of investigators and criminologists, it was possible to identify and question key witnesses living in different regions of the country at that time.

Despite the version of the attacker about the attack of the victims and his innocence, during additional investigative actions, the circumstances of the incident were restored. Materials against the accomplice are allocated to a separate proceeding. Taking into account the guilty verdict of the jury, the court appointed the man 15 years of imprisonment with serving in a strict-security correctional colony.
