On the island of Sarpinsky in Volgograd introduced restrictions due to rabies

The Veterinary Committee of the Volgograd region introduced a quarantine for rabies on the island of Sarpinsky in Volgograd. Order No. 243a of October 7 is published on the legal information portal. Measures are aimed at eliminating the focus of infection and preventing its spread. The plans include disinfecting the place where the corpse of a sick animal is found, bypassing households and vaccinating susceptible animals.

Rabies is a deadly and incurable disease for animals and humans. According to Rospotrebnadzor, since the beginning of 2026, more than 8 thousand people have applied to medical institutions of the region due to bites and salivation by animals, which is higher than the annual average level. No cases of rabies among people have been reported. With the appearance of clinical signs, the probability of death is extremely high. The virus is transmitted by biting, scratching or licking through micro-damage to the skin, infecting the brain and the CNS, causing encephalitis.
