Since the beginning of 2026, 64 people have died in the water bodies of Tatarstan, including six children. For comparison, 71 deaths on water, including four minors, were recorded in the same period in 2025. These data were provided by the head of the safety department at water bodies of the State Emergency Situations Department for the Republic of Tatarstan Regina Gayazova, Tatarstan 24 reports.
According to her, the main cause of the accidents remains bathing in places not intended for this. Of the total number of deaths this year, 29 people drowned for this reason.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations notes that the total number of drownings has decreased, but child mortality has increased from four to six cases.
On the eve of the ice, Gayazova appealed to parents to be especially vigilant and not to let their children go to water bodies without supervision.
