Bones found after fire led police to suspects
Remains of missing UK mother-of-three found nearly seven years after her disappearance

The remains of a missing British mother-of-three were discovered almost seven years after her disappearance. The finding allowed the police to resume the investigation and detain two men, one of whom had already come to the attention of law enforcement officers.
Joanne Sheen was 44 when she was last seen alive on December 5, 2019. The woman was heading from Fairham to Southampton. Relatives announced her disappearance in February 2020, after which police began a large-scale search.
The turning point in the investigation came on August 12, 2026. In the thickets near Padstow Walk in the London district of Feltham, a passerby discovered human bones. Shortly before, a fire broke out on an area of about two hectares, destroying part of the vegetation and opening up a piece of land, AOL writes.
DNA testing and analysis confirmed that the remains belong to Shin. Upon identification, the case was referred from the Metropolitan Police to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police, who were handling the initial investigation into the woman's disappearance.
Law enforcement officers re-arrested the 56-year-old Southampton resident, who was questioned back in 2020. He is suspected of murder and conspiracy to murder. A second man of the same age was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy. After interrogation, both were released on bail with restrictive conditions. They have not yet been charged.
During the years of the investigation, the police checked more than four thousand versions, interviewed more than 300 people, examined more than ten buildings, ships, reservoirs and forests. Independent organisation Crimestoppers has announced a reward of up to £20,000 for information that will help detain those responsible for Sheen's death.
