In Brazil, in the municipal center of preschool education in the San Braz district of the city of Curitiba, a man broke into a kindergarten and took 13 children hostage. The attacker was eliminated. This was reported by G1, citing the military police of the state of Paraná. The incident happened the day before.
The man was armed with a knife and carried a fake gun. He broke into one of the classrooms and held children aged 4-5 there for more than three hours. He also poured combustible liquid into the room, threatening to start a fire.
The assailant's identity was established only after the special forces entered the classroom. It turned out that the man suffers from schizophrenia. During the negotiations, he did not say anything clear that would allow us to understand his motive.
Police tried to calm him and the children, but the situation escalated. When the children began to experience severe stress, and the man began to insult them and rudely hold them, the special forces entered the room. At this point, he tried to grab one of the children and held a lighter, threatening to set the room on fire.
All 13 children were saved. No serious injuries were sustained. Five parents of their choice were referred to the emergency room, but only one child had visible injuries - abrasions on the face. Curitiba City Hall attracted psychologists. The suspect's connection to children or school has not yet been established.
