The Suzdal district court put an end to the high-profile case of theft of a car worth more than 2.7 million rubles. A 37-year-old resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region was found guilty under paragraph “b” of part 4 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft on an especially large scale).

The story began in November 2025 in Moscow, when a man handed over his BMW X5 M50D to a pawnshop, receiving 700 thousand rubles. Having estimated the car at pennies, the borrower did not contest the transaction legally. When the crossover was sold for debts to a resident of the Suzdal district, and fines from the cameras fell on the former owner, he decided to act in his own way.

Rejecting the attempt of blackmail - the man demanded from the new hostess 500 thousand rubles for the return of the keys - the attacker went to extreme measures. On the night of April 17-18, 2026, he opened a BMW with a second set of keys and fled. The car was seized by police and returned to its rightful owner. The sentence - 3 years 4 months in a strict regime colony - has not yet come into force.
